Staff at the John Lewis Partnership’s head office in London were greeted on August 1st by ‘Cupbert’, our man-sized paper cup, to mark the start of the UK’s ONLY paper cup collection and recycling scheme.
The John Lewis Partnership is one of the scheme’s founding members and one of the first companies to begin using the service for its headquarters in Victoria as well as Waitrose’s head office in Bracknell.
Mike Walters, the Partnership’s Manager, Waste and Water Resource, describes this as a ‘fundamental change’ to John Lewis’s waste management process.
New paper cup recycling bins have been introduced within the building’s coffee shops and restaurants with bold signage to make it easier for staff to understand what goes where.
“We know partners are up for separating their waste if it’s straightforward”, says Mike, “and we hope to roll out this approach to recycling across our business”.
