Aviation has very particular challenges when it comes to the issue of single-use packaging. In October, Peter Goodwin represented Closed Loop Environmental Solutions and Simply Cups at the ATAG 2018 Global Sustainable Aviation Summit, held in Geneva. Each delegate was given a free rCUP, specially branded for the Conference, which they could use instead of single paper cups.
Peter participated in the panel discussion; ‘Reduce, reuse and recycle’ during Day 1 on the main conference stage, addressing the questions of food hygiene, recyclability, international waste legislation and weight and, crucially, what solutions already exist.
Closed Loop Environmental already has proven experience in helping a number of airlines address their waste challenges. After a forensic examination of one airlines waste over a two month process it was discovered that more than half of all the waste was recyclable, including up to 60 per cent of cabin waste. As a result Closed Loop Environmental estimated that the recoverable resources could reduce the costs of waste disposal by over £100K per annum.
